Installation of platform gates at MTR Kowloon Tong Station completed, with three stations remaining
The MTR said today (Dec. 3) that the installation of automatic platform gates (APGs) at Kowloon Tong Station of the East Rail Line has been completed, with the progress slightly ahead of the original estimate.
It is learned that Kowloon Tong Station is the 10th of the 13 stations on the East Rail Line where the installation of platform gates is required to be completed. The MTR has indicated that it is pressing ahead with the installation of APGs at stations with large curved platforms, such as Mong Kok East, Lo Wu and University Stations, with a view to completing the works as soon as possible within 2025.
The gaps between platforms and train compartments on the East Rail Line have long been criticized. The MTR plans to install nearly 1,600 APGs at a total of 35 platforms in 13 stations along the line without gates. Based on the information, the nine stations where APGs have been completed are Racecourse, Lok Ma Chau, Sheung Shui, Sha Tin, Tai Wai, Tai Po Market, Fanling, Fo Tan and Tai Wo.
