South Korea's President Yoon Suk-yeol apologizes for declaring martial law
South Korea's President Yoon Suk-yeol delivered a national address today (Dec. 7), apologizing for the public attention and inconvenience caused by declaring emergency martial law.
Yoon bowed to the citizens, apologizing for the confusion caused by the state of emergency declared that day, and promised there would not be a repeat. He explained that behind the declaration of a state of emergency was his sense of despair regarding the political situation as the President. He pledged not to evade legal charges and has entrusted the ruling party and the government to manage state affairs.
Furthermore, the National Assembly is set to address the impeachment motion launched by the opposition party against Yoon today. The main opposition party, the People Power Party, plans to vote on the motion earlier than scheduled at 5 p.m. local time.
