The impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol, initiated by six opposition parties in South Korea, was presented to the National Assembly's full session at 12:48 AM on Dec. 5, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The grounds for impeachment include Yoon's declaration of a state of emergency, which allegedly violates several constitutional and legal provisions.

The impeachment motion states that following the declaration of martial law, the martial law command monitored all news and publishing activities, strikes and assemblies were prohibited, and citizens' constitutional rights to freedom of speech were violated.

Since the National Assembly must vote on the impeachment motion within 24 to 72 hours after its presentation, the vote can occur after 12:49 AM on Dec. 6. The opposition plans to push for an early vote on the impeachment motion. If it passes, Yoon will be immediately suspended from office.

Furthermore, for the impeachment motion to pass, more than half of the registered members of the National Assembly must participate in the vote, with two-thirds voting in favor. Given that the opposition only holds 192 seats, the motion can only pass if at least eight members from the ruling party vote in favor.
