1-minute News | Dishes with fun names: What are they?

When vivid language meets delicious dishes, what kind of chemical reaction will occur?

İmam Bayıldı (which means "the imam fainted") is a traditional dish from Ottoman cuisine made with whole eggplants filled with onions, garlic, and tomatoes, then simmered in olive oil.

One popular tale tells of a Turkish imam who, upon tasting his wife's eggplant dish for the first time, was thrilled by its flavor. However, when he learned about the generous amount of olive oil and the high cost of the ingredients used, he was so shocked that he fainted.

Another dish, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall (also known as Buddha's Temptation or Fotiaoqiang), is a type of shark fin soup from Fujian cuisine. The name refers to the dish's allure, suggesting that it is so enticing that it could draw vegetarian Buddhist monks away from their temples to enjoy this meat-based dish. It implies that even the strictly vegetarian Gautama Buddha might leap over a wall to taste it.

Stargazy pie is a traditional Cornish dish consisting of baked pilchards (sardines), eggs, and potatoes, all encased in a pastry crust. While there are variations using different kinds of fish, what sets stargazy pie apart is the fish heads (and sometimes tails) that poke through the crust, giving the impression of gazing at the stars.

Are there any other dishes with impressive names?
