Median monthly income in HK has risen to HK$22,000, survey shows
According to the latest Quarterly Report on General Household Survey released by the Census and Statistics Department today (Nov. 28), the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the third quarter of this year remained at 3.0%, up by 0.2% year-on-year.
The median monthly employment income increased from HK$21,100 in the previous quarter to HK$22,000.
The report indicates that excluding foreign domestic helpers, Hong Kong had a working population of 3.488 million, an increase of about 14,000 from the previous quarter. The employed population was 3.368 million, up by around 9,000 from the previous quarter.
Excluding foreign domestic helpers, the median monthly employment income increased from HK$21,100 in the previous quarter to HK$22,000. The increase was most pronounced among males, with a median income of HK$24,500, up by HK$500 from the previous quarter. The median income for females remained at HK$20,000 without growth.
The report states that the number of unemployed persons was 119,000, with the unemployment rate remaining at 3%, the same as the previous quarter but higher than last year's 2.8%. The number of underemployed persons showed an increasing trend, reaching 46,000 in the third quarter, an increase of 15,000 from the previous quarter and significantly higher than the 37,900 in the third quarter of this year. However, the underemployment rate remained at 1.2% when calculated proportionally, unchanged from the previous quarter.
