TikTok to limit use of beauty filters by teenage users
According to reports from foreign media, on November 26 local time, TikTok (the overseas version of Douyin) announced at a forum held at its European headquarters in Dublin that it would limit the use of certain effects by teenage users. Users under 18 will not be able to use beauty filters.
The report states that in the coming weeks, TikTok will begin prohibiting underage users from using beauty effects, including those that enlarge eyes, enhance lips, and alter skin tone, in response to concerns about adolescent mental health. TikTok will also strengthen measures to prevent users under 13 from accessing the platform. By the end of the year, the company will launch a new automated system trial to detect age restriction violations.
According to the new regulations, filters that change facial features beyond makeup effects, such as transforming into a horse face or adding bunny ears, will not be included in the ban.
