Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses openness to maintaining dialogue with Trump's team
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Mao Ning, held a regular press conference today (Nov. 26). She addressed former U.S. President Trump's recent social media post, in which he claimed he would impose a 10% tariff on all goods imported from China. Mao stated that they were aware of this news and would respond later.
When asked if there had been any communication with Trump's team regarding the issue, she indicated that there was no information to provide. Still, she expressed an openness to maintaining dialogue and communication.
Regarding Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo's earlier statement that it is incorrect to say Chinese products enter the U.S. and Canada through Mexico, Mao emphasized that China's trade cooperation with all countries is based on international rules and market principles, with mutual benefit and win-win outcomes essential. She maintained that politicizing economic and trade issues does not serve the interests of any party. She reiterated that China and Mexico are good friends based on mutual trust and good partners in common development.
She further stated that maintaining stable and healthy economic and trade relations aligns with the expectations of both parties and the long-term interests of all involved. China is willing to work with Mexico to uphold a favorable environment for bilateral economic and trade cooperation, contributing to the development of both countries.
