Police investigate AI-generated nude image hoax targeting legislators

Sources reported yesterday (Nov. 25) that several incumbent Legislative Council (LegCo) members received an "AI (Artificial Intelligence) generated picture" in their mailboxes, which was a fake picture of a LegCo member "with a naked woman", and that some people are suspected of attempting to cause unrest among LegCo members and disrupt the hard-won harmony of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Sources said the incident has been reported to the police by LegCo members.

Upon enquiry, Albert Luk, a legal practitioner, said that if the offender had sent the "AI-generated images", which might damage his reputation, to others through his computer, he might have committed the offense of "access to a computer with criminal or dishonest intent".

In addition, if the offender puts the "AI-generated image" paper with images of nude women into other people's mailboxes and sends it to more than one person, he/she may commit the offense of publishing an obscene article under the Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles Ordinance (Cap. 390), which is liable to a maximum penalty of a fine of HK$1,000,000 and imprisonment of three years.
