The 19th edition of the Eco Expo Asia was held in Hong Kong from October 30 to November 2, attracting over 300 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions. Themed "Fostering Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality", the fair featured innovative technologies and solutions in areas such as renewable energy, waste management, and ESG-related initiatives. The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) conducted green living seminars to share practical environmental knowledge with the public and invited officials from "Belt and Road" countries and regions, such as Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Laos, and Brunei, to exchange insights.

Dr. Samuel Chui Ho-kwong, Director of the EPD, introduced that over 300 exhibitors from overseas and Mainland China participated in the event with their new equipment and technologies, making significant efforts on environmental exchange and integration. He specifically mentioned the invitation of representatives from "Belt and Road" countries, to whom unique technologies from Hong Kong, such as the seawater flushing system, sludge incineration facility, methods to prevent landslides and protection of coastlines from impacts of waves, were shown. Additionally, a seminar was held in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences to discuss climate change adaptation and environmental improvements with mainland scholars and foreign experts. "We will continue collaborating with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, other countries, and mainland companies, hoping to bring mainland technologies and products to 'Belt and Road' countries."

The Chinese Academy of Sciences organized a delegation of nearly 20 enterprises, totaling 30 people, to participate in the event and set up booths to showcase the latest technologies and other featured products. Prof. Yang Min, Director of Environmental Technology Overseas Cooperation Center, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, pointed out that cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the HKEPD began in September last year, with both sides exchanging Cooperation Arrangement on Developing Belt and Road Ecological and Environmental Collaboration Work. "Since then, we have had close interactions. For example, the EPD sent technical personnel to attend training sessions organized in Beijing. In July this year, Director Chui Ho-kwong led a team to Sri Lanka to attend a conference on water environment technology and climate change. He provided training and model donations to the local professionals." He believes the joint organization of industry-academia-research cooperation by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and HKEPD is a win-win situation. "The Mainland's environmental industry is developing well, with many good technologies and products that can support environmental protection in Hong Kong and to be promoted globally, especially in other 'Belt and Road' countries."

The successful organization of the fair also brings business opportunities and benefits to partners from "Belt and Road" countries. Mr. Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor, Group CEO of the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation, expressed that his visit aimed to learn about the support that Hong Kong can offer and to attract companies to invest in Malaysia. After visiting T·PARK in Tuen Mun, he was impressed by this integrated facility that combines seawater desalination, sludge incineration, and sewage treatment. "Considering the shortage of fresh water in some parts of Malaysia, seawater desalination might be an option." He believes that reducing carbon emissions is a core issue, and it's crucial to introduce new technologies to stimulate the economy. This visit inspires them to consider expediting the future sale of carbon emission quotas.
