The "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Road Cycling Race and National Games Road Cycling Test Event" will take place this Sunday (Nov. 24).
Yeung Tak-keung, the director of the National Games Coordination Office, stated today (Nov. 22) in a radio program that the race course spans 230 kilometers and will start in Zhuhai at 9 a.m. During the competition, temporary control measures will be implemented on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Cross-border vehicles traveling from Hong Kong to Macao or Zhuhai must arrive at the Hong Kong port by 6:30 a.m. As for the shuttle buses, they will gradually resume normal operations after around 12:30 p.m. on that day.
Yeung pointed out that 71 athletes will participate in the race, along with escort vehicles and emergency rescue teams. When the race teams reach relevant roads in the Hong Kong race area, including North Lantau Highway, control measures will be enforced as the teams arrive at specific sections to minimize traffic disruption.
Yeung noted that this is the first time that a cross-border event is held on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Following the race, a detailed review will be conducted to decide whether to use the same route for next year's official competition. If adjustments are needed, discussions will take place among the three regions. If the test event proceeds smoothly, there is a high likelihood that the route will be adopted for next year's official race.
