Russia's first intercontinental ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine
Kyiv announced Thursday that Russia has launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) against Ukraine.
Moscow launched an attack on the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro Thursday morning, targeting critical infrastructure. Ukraine's air force said in a statement on Telegram that the ICBM — a powerful long-range weapon capable of striking targets thousands of kilometers away and carrying nuclear warheads — was fired from Astrakhan in southern Russia.
"No information on casualties or injuries has been reported so far," the air force added.
The escalation comes after U.S. President Joe Biden last weekend authorized the use of American-supplied long-range missiles by Kyiv to strike targets inside Russia, finally responding to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's demands that Western allies loosen restrictions on donated weapons.
