Caricature: Layoff wave
According to foreign media, aircraft manufacturer Boeing issued layoff notices to over 400 members of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) last week.
The Associated Press reported that these employees will continue to receive their salaries until mid-January next year. In October, Boeing announced plans to reduce about 10% of its workforce in the coming months, totaling approximately 17,000 employees.
Previously, Boeing experienced a major strike, with up to 33,000 U.S. machinists participating. This strike has severely impacted the financial situation of the struggling aircraft manufacturer and its suppliers. Boeing reported a quarterly loss of over HK$6 billion earlier.
