Special snake version of 'Bing Dwen Dwen' unveiled, set for release on Nov. 22
As 2024 draws to a close and the Year of the Snake approaches, a special edition of the "Bing Dwen Dwen" mascot, named "She Dwen Dwen," has been officially launched in Beijing today (Nov. 19). This new collection commemorates the third anniversary of the Beijing Winter Olympics and celebrates Olympic intellectual property with a nod to Chinese New Year.
The "She Dwen Dwen" figurines feature five unique designs, symbolizing the traditional "five blessings" — good fortune, prosperity, longevity, happiness, and wealth. These blessings represent the Chinese people's pursuit of a fulfilling life, happiness, and social values.
Inspired by the Chinese folk tale The Legend of the White Snake, the "She Dwen Dwen" design incorporates elements of traditional Peking Opera, with characters modeled after the mythical figures Bai Suzhen and Xiaoqing. In Chinese culture, snakes are associated with wisdom, longevity, and healing. Additionally, the "dragon scales" on the mascot's snake skin add a touch of fantasy and represent hope and innovation for the future.
The five "She Dwen Dwen" figurines include:
"Immortal of Fortune" She Dwen Dwen: Red, holding a Ruyi scepter, symbolizing peace, happiness, and blessings.
"Immortal of Prosperity" She Dwen Dwen: Green, holding a gourd, representing career success, honor, and justice.
"Immortal of Longevity" She Dwen Dwen: Blue, holding a longevity peach, symbolizing long life, health, and tranquility.
"Immortal of Happiness" She Dwen Dwen: Pink, holding peach blossoms, symbolizing joy, fulfillment, and celebration.
"Immortal of Wealth" She Dwen Dwen (hidden edition): Gold, holding a gold ingot, symbolizing wealth, prosperity, and abundance.
The "She Dwen Dwen" series will officially launch this Friday (Nov. 22) in five cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, and Guangzhou. Nationwide sales will begin in December. Simultaneously, a variety of "She Dwen Dwen" merchandise, including plush toys, figurines, badges, fridge magnets, ceramics, keychains, postcards, precious metals, and pillows, will be available both online and in physical stores.
