An industrial accident occurred at the airport's third runway construction site last night (Nov. 17), where a 37-year-old male worker was reportedly trapped by a boom lift during work. Colleagues on-site managed to rescue him, but he sustained injuries to his chest and back and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Airport Authority stated today (Nov. 18) that it takes the incident very seriously and is following up with the relevant contractor. Work related to the site has been suspended.
Reports indicate that the injured worker is a laborer from Henan Province who began working in Hong Kong in August this year.
The incident happened at around 9:40 p.m. last night. Police received reports that a worker was trapped between a boom lift and the glass canopy while working at the T2 passenger concourse construction site. He suffered injuries to his chest and back and was rescued by colleagues before being taken to North Lantau Hospital and later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.
The Airport Authority mentioned that an emergency support team was dispatched to the scene to provide first aid to the injured worker until paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital.
