Boeing initiates layoffs, with over 400 SPEEA members receiving termination notices
According to foreign media, aircraft manufacturer Boeing issued layoff notices to over 400 Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) members last week.
The Associated Press reported that the affected employees will continue to receive pay until mid-January next year. In October, Boeing announced plans to cut about 10% of its workforce in the coming months, totaling approximately 17,000 employees.
SPEEA stated that this round of layoffs affects 438 members, with 216 from the professional sector, including engineers and scientists, while the rest are part of the technical unit, including analysts, planners, technicians, and mechanics.
SPEEA has 17,000 Boeing union members on the U.S. West Coast, most of whom work in Washington State, with others primarily in Oregon, California, and Utah.
