Notre-Dame Cathedral to reopen to the public on Dec. 8
According to CCTV, the restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral has reached a significant milestone. On Nov. 13, local time, French officials held a press conference to announce details regarding the reopening of the iconic cathedral.
The reopening ceremony for Notre-Dame will take place on Dec. 7, with French President Emmanuel Macron in attendance. From Dec. 8 to 15, the cathedral will be open to visitors between 3:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Following this period, starting Dec. 15, Notre-Dame will return to its pre-fire visiting hours, from 7:45 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
After the devastating fire in 2019, French authorities set a five-year timeline for the first phase of reconstruction. Around 2,000 people, including 250 companies, craftsmen, architects, and specialists, have been involved in the restoration efforts. The work to secure the building and remove lead contamination was completed by the summer of 2021. Restoration of the cathedral and various art studios began in the fall of the same year.
In February this year, the cathedral's spire was once again visible to the public. The cleaning and restoration of the interior walls, stained glass windows, vaults, and decorations have now been completed.
