Israeli forces conduct airstrikes on Hezbollah-controlled regions in Beirut
Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah-controlled regions in Beirut for the third consecutive day on Thursday, targeting areas in the southern suburbs early in the morning following a night of intense bombardment.
As the strikes continued, smoke rose over Beirut, with additional attacks also impacting Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon. Overnight airstrikes and artillery fire caused significant damage to buildings and residential complexes, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).
The NNA reported that five individuals were killed in airstrikes on the towns of Bazourieh and Jumayjimah.
Israel initiated a major air and ground offensive against the Iran-backed Hezbollah in late September, following nearly a year of cross-border conflict in conjunction with the Gaza war.
Lebanese authorities have not yet confirmed casualties from Thursday’s strikes on the largely evacuated southern suburbs of Beirut. Since October 7, Israeli attacks have reportedly resulted in at least 3,365 deaths and 14,344 injuries across Lebanon, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
On Wednesday, Ali Hassan Khalil, a political aide to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, announced that Lebanese negotiators had reached a preliminary understanding with U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein regarding a ceasefire framework.
