Typhoon Toraji: Forecast and precautions for residents
The Observatory announced today (Nov. 12) that Typhoon Toraji has been moving steadily northwest over the past few hours. According to the current forecast path, Typhoon Toraji will remain approximately 400 kilometers or more from Hong Kong for most of today, and the associated strong winds have not yet affected the Pearl River Estuary. The No. 1 Standby Signal will remain in effect at least until midnight.
The Observatory stated that as Typhoon Toraji approaches the southern coast of China, the wind strength in the area will gradually increase due to the combined influence of the typhoon and the northeast monsoon. They are considering issuing the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal during the daytime tomorrow (Nov. 13).
The Observatory expects Typhoon Toraji to pass around 200 kilometers south of Hong Kong on Thursday morning (Nov. 14). They will assess whether to issue a higher tropical cyclone warning signal based on the typhoon's intensity, the distance of its strong wind area from the Pearl River Estuary, and local wind changes at that time.
