Watch This | Hainan airlines' plane safely returns after bird strike

Hainan Airlines experienced a dramatic incident yesterday (Nov. 10) when one of its planes, flying from Rome to Shenzhen, encountered a frightening situation shortly after takeoff. The aircraft's right engine suddenly erupted in flames during the ascent.

The plane, fortunately, safely returned to Rome afterward, and Hainan Airlines later stated that the right engine had suffered a bird strike.

The aircraft involved was Hainan Airlines flight HU438, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which took off from Rome Fiumicino Airport at 10:02 am local time, originally bound for Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport.

During the takeoff phase, the right engine of the plane experienced a bird strike. To ensure safety, the crew quickly decided to return as per protocol. The flight landed safely at Rome Fiumicino Airport at 11:06 am local time (6:06 PM Hong Kong time), and all passengers disembarked in an orderly manner. The airline will provide appropriate follow-up support for the passengers.

A bird strike refers to an event in which an aircraft incurs localized damage due to a collision with birds during a low-altitude flight or approach for landing.
