Caricature: The moment of judgement
The results of the US presidential election have been announced. Republican candidate Donald Trump has won more than 270 electoral votes and has been successfully elected as the new US President. As the first US President-elect to be criminally charged in the history of the US, some foreign media have pointed out that the four criminal charges he is facing will most likely be shelved or even dropped.
According to the Financial Times, Trump is still facing a number of major criminal charges, including mishandling classified documents after leaving office, trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election, and falsifying business records and paying "hush money" to a porn star. In May of this year, Trump was convicted of all 34 criminal charges in the "hush money" case. The trial judge agreed to extend the sentencing date to November 26th.
After Trump is elected president, prosecutors will face entirely new, if not fatal, legal hurdles, the report said. In addition, Trump will be able to put pressure on them in a number of ways, even choosing to appoint an Attorney General who favors his camp and order the dismissal of the case himself.
