On November 5, the official voting day for the U.S. presidential election, Washington D.C. heightened security measures to prevent violence.
An 8-foot-tall metal fence was erected around the White House, the Capitol building, and Harris's residence, with signs warning citizens not to climb over the barriers. Many shops near the White House have also boarded up their windows.
The D.C. police stated that over 3,000 officers would be on duty with a 12-hour shift system, and most officers' time off and vacations have been canceled.
