MIRROR concert accident: 3 defendants not to testify in court, case expected to be concluded by Feb. next year
Three staff members of the main contractor, Engineering Impact Limited, were charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud and one count of alternate fraud for allegedly conspiring to misrepresent the weight of the suspended equipment in the MIRROR concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum which injured a person.
The case was heard in the District Court over a number of days and it took 14 days to complete the prosecution's case, during which 14 witnesses were summoned by the prosecution, including staff of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), concert producers, directors and stage designers, and registered structural engineers engaged by the LCSD outside the department for approving the concert's suspension system.
The judge ruled the day before yesterday that the three defendants had been found guilty, but the defense confirmed yesterday that the defendants will not testify in court. The case was adjourned to February 4 next year for closing arguments, during which time the three were granted bail.
