HK Disneyland 10K Weekend: Paul Chan says creativity can bring more tourists
This morning (Nov. 3), Hong Kong Disneyland hosted a series of running events, including 3km and 10km races and special competitions for wheelchair users and visually impaired participants.
One visually impaired runner shared that running helps him stay focused and set goals. He noted that the weather was ideal for the race, and it was his first time participating in a 10km event, which he completed in approximately 70 minutes—well within his target time. He expressed satisfaction with his performance. He also mentioned that this race felt unique compared to other events, as the park's music provided a motivating push throughout the course.
A runner from Thailand commented on the proximity between Hong Kong and Thailand, adding that he had visited the park many times before. This time, however, he wanted to do something special and was thrilled to participate. A runner from Shenzhen also shared his enthusiasm, emphasizing the great atmosphere of the event, which blended the excitement of sports with the unique Disney experience, allowing him to appreciate local culture better.
During his speech, Financial Secretary Paul Chan, one of the event's officiating guests, announced that nearly 20,000 runners had signed up for the event, setting a new record. He highlighted the diversity of participants, including people of all ages and abilities, who had the opportunity to run through the park's "Frozen" themed area. Chan described it as a joyful and meaningful occasion.
He added that the event demonstrated how Hong Kong has many attractive aspects when people "put their minds to it." He expressed confidence that such initiatives would continue attracting more visitors to the city.
