
In the early hours of November 2, a robbery occurred in Yau Ma Tei where an off-duty police sergeant was attacked with multiple stab wounds, leaving him injured and bleeding. The police quickly apprehended a 36-year-old non-Chinese male suspect who held a walk-street paper. The suspect was arrested on charges of "robbery" and "assaulting a police officer" and is currently in custody for further investigation.
Senior Inspector of the Yau Tsim Police District Crime Unit revealed details of the case today (November 3). He stated that the non-Chinese male suspect attempted to steal the victim's wallet but failed. The victim then identified himself as a police officer, prompting the suspect to stab him multiple times in the neck, hands, and legs with a sharp weapon. Passersby attempted to intervene, recording the incident on video, but the suspect managed to flee the scene.
With the help of CCTV footage, the Yau Tsim District Crime Unit quickly identified the suspect and arrested him at his Hung Hom residence by midday the same day. The suspect, a 36-year-old Pakistani national, has lived in Hong Kong for over a decade and holds a walk-street paper. Multiple phones and wallets were found at the suspect's residence are believed to be stolen goods. The police are investigating whether the suspect had accomplices.
Senior Inspector noted that the suspect not only targeted victims late at night when they were likely to be tired and less vigilant but also carried a sharp weapon with him. Although such violent cases are uncommon, the police have reiterated their "zero tolerance" stance on crimes involving serious violence.
Fortunately, the victim did not lose any property during the incident. He sustained multiple cuts to his neck and body and was treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital before being discharged later the same day.
