Saint Francis University becomes 2nd university of applied sciences in HK
Christine Choi Yuk-lin, Secretary for Education, announced that Saint Francis University (StFU) has successfully passed relevant review and is confirmed to fulfill all the criteria to become a university of applied sciences, making it the second one of this kind in Hong Kong.
Caritas Institute of Higher Education became a university earlier this year and applied to become a university of applied sciences.
The Education Bureau announced the qualifications for self-financing post-secondary education institutions to become universities of applied sciences in early February.
Hong Kong Metropolitan University became the first university of applied sciences in March, becoming the first one of this kind in Hong Kong.
Choi also mentioned in a Legislative Council that the government has provided HK$100 million as the initial funding for the Alliance of Universities in Applied Sciences, which will be officially established and commence operations this month.
