Algernon Yau: 'E-Commerce Easy' program grants eight applications, averages HK$470,000 in funding
Algernon Yau, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, reported that the "E-Commerce Easy" initiative, launched under the BUD Fund, has seen a gradual increase in monthly applications.
As of the end of September this year, the program received 102 applications, with eight approved or conditionally approved, averaging about HK$470,000 in funding per application and a maximum funding amount of HK$990,000.
In August, the Trade Development Council organized the "Hong Kong Shopping Festival" on the mainland e-commerce platform. Attending a Legislative Council meeting, Yau responded to oral inquiries from members, stating that the inaugural event attracted over 230 brands from various sectors, including cosmetics and daily necessities. The festival garnered significant attention, with the related e-commerce platform topics and the official website receiving over 90 million views.
Yau added that feedback collected by the Trade Development Council after the event indicated that the majority of businesses were satisfied with the outcome of the first "Hong Kong Shopping Festival" and expressed interest in participating again. About 60% of surveyed Hong Kong businesses reported that the event helped increase their brand exposure and recognition in the mainland, leading to business growth, while nearly 90% of the merchants involved in live-stream selling felt the event deepened their understanding of live-stream sales operations.
