The Chief Executive, Mr. John Lee, met with the Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Mr. Sun Jinlong, today (Oct. 29) to exchange views on issues of mutual concern. Also attending the meeting were the Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Mr. Tse Chin-wan, and the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Ms. Carol Yip.

Mr. Lee welcomed Mr. Sun's visit to Hong Kong with his delegation to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Eco Expo Asia and to learn more about HK's work in improving harbor water quality and waste management through site visits. Mr. Lee expressed his gratitude to the Central Government and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment for their strong support to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government's work in protecting the ecological environment.

"The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China focused on achieving the objective of building a beautiful China by ramping up green transition in all areas of economic and social development and improving the environmental governance system. The HKSAR Government will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the governments of provinces and cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to promote environmental governance in the GBA, including improving the water quality of Shenzhen River and enhancing regional air quality, in efforts to build a beautiful China and a beautiful HK," Mr. Lee said.

He also said that the HKSAR Government will leverage HK's unique advantages of enjoying strong national support while maintaining unparalleled connectivity with the world to introduce ecological protection and development technologies from the Mainland and internationally, with a view to establishing HK as a demonstration base for green technologies. HK will play its role as a "super connector" and a "super value-adder", combining HK's world-class professional services and its advantages in financing to contribute to ecological protection and development.
