First dinosaur fossil discovery in HK: Govt to consider developing tourist attractions
A dinosaur fossil was found on Chek Lap Kok Island for the first time in Hong Kong. In a press conference before the Executive Council today (Oct. 29), Lee said he will consider making use of the opportunity to create tourist attractions and set up long-term exhibitions to attract tourists.
Lee said the public is excited about the discovery of fossilized dinosaur bones for the first time in Hong Kong. The government will continue to work on the discovery in the hope that it will not only be used for research purposes but also to develop Hong Kong into a place where people can learn about the history of dinosaurs.
According to Lee, the government will capitalize on this opportunity and consider putting the dinosaur fossil on permanent display at the Heritage Discovery Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, as well as launching workshops to enable the public to learn more about dinosaurs.
In addition, the geopark where the dinosaur fossil was found is famous for its hexagonal volcanic columns, and it is hoped that the tourism industry can launch more tours so that the public and tourists can not only learn about the history of dinosaurs but also appreciate the natural scenery, Lee said.
