Indonesia bans iPhone 16, claiming Apple failed to fulfill investment commitments
Foreign reports indicate that the Indonesian government recently announced a ban on the sale of Apple's iPhone 16 within the country, citing unmet investment commitments by Apple in Indonesia.
The iPhone 16, which was globally launched on Sept. 20 this year, is being barred from sale alongside the Apple Watch Series 10. However, tourists or crew members can still bring the iPhone 16 into the country for personal use.
The Indonesian Ministry of Industry earlier stated that Apple had committed to investing IDR$1.7 trillion Indonesian rupiah (approximately US$109 million) in local infrastructure and procurement, but only IDR$1.48 trillion rupiah was invested.
