Policy Address 2024 | Sun Dong: Low-altitude economy to be most effective below 1,000 meters
In the 2024 Policy Address, the HKSAR Government has proposed to develop a low-altitude economy. Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said at a Legislative Council committee meeting that air transport for the low-altitude economy would be most effective at altitudes below 1,000 meters and within a range of two to three kilometers.
Sun highlighted that the Lok Ma Chau Loop, a key area shared between Shenzhen and HK, could become one of the first regions to implement this low-altitude economy. He emphasized the potential for improved cross-boundary logistics, particularly for transporting critical materials between the two regions.
He further noted that the optimal conditions for low-altitude transport involve altitudes under 1,000 meters and a local radius of two to three kilometers, making the Lok Ma Chau Loop an ideal location.
