Policy Address 2024 | Govt to appoint non-officials as chairpersons of 'Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board'
According to the new policy address, the existing Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board will be reconstituted into the "Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board", a high-level advisory body to assist the Government in formulating policies and long-term development strategies.
Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics indicated that the plan is to appoint non-officials as chairpersons to better align with market needs, while also increasing research and promotional resources.
Regarding aviation development, Lam pointed out that with the full completion of the three-runway system at the airport, the capacity of Hong Kong International Airport will be significantly enhanced. The authorities are working to negotiate aviation agreements with various regions to open up more routes and increase flights, including in the Belt and Road Initiative and Southeast Asia.
Lam mentioned that the authorities are currently developing the first phase of the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park and will begin preliminary research for the second phase, hoping to attract more express delivery, e-commerce, and cold chain logistics businesses to leverage Hong Kong's advantages in cold chain logistics.
When it comes to the issue of insufficient parking spaces, Lam noted that the authorities have increased the proportion of parking spaces in the plan and will use automated parking systems to enhance the number of available spaces to meet parking demand.
