HK must reform healthcare system in response to aging population and advancements in medical technology, says Health Secretary
Secretary for Health, Lo Chung-mau emphasized today (Oct. 26) during a radio interview that it is time for significant reforms in the city's healthcare system, in light of an aging population and advancements in medical technology.
Lo pointed out that the newly established Primary Healthcare Commission (PHC Commission) will take on more responsibilities in managing chronic diseases, which will help alleviate the Department of Health's (DH) burden in terms of treatment.
The latest Policy Address has emphasized that the Government will conduct a comprehensive review on the positioning and objectives of the healthcare system, including reforming the functions and division of work among the Hospital Authority, DH and PHC Commission.
Lo described the reform as crucial for HK, and stressed the importance of initiating reforms as soon as possible.
