E. coli outbreak at McDonald's in the US resulted in 1 death and 49 infected
An E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's in the United States has resulted in one death and 49 infections, including ten hospitalizations, one of which involved a child.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the outbreak has affected ten states, including Colorado and Nebraska, and is suspected to be associated with the four-ounce beef burgers served at McDonald's.
McDonald's has indicated that the outbreak may have been caused by contaminated onions in their supply chain. Those infected have developed symptoms such as hemorrhagic diarrhea and hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can lead to damaged blood vessels and potentially fatal blood clots. Most patients reported having consumed the four-ounce beef burgers from McDonald's before falling ill.
