New policy address focuses on reform under HK's current situation, John Lee says
Hong Kong is currently in a crucial period of economic transformation, and the government needs to clarify the direction, identify problems, propose solutions, and build social consensus and strength, Chief Executive John Lee said at a press conference today (Oct. 22)
Lee pointed out that the first chapter of the policy address clearly states, "Reform and Embrace Changes to Achieve Prosperity." He emphasized that reform is aimed at enhancing governance and outcomes, not just change for the sake of change.
"It is important to understand what to establish and what to dismantle, adapting to the times and local conditions, maintaining a balance, and making appropriate adjustments. Reform is not only the responsibility of the SAR government but also a collective responsibility that the entire society must participate in and promote."
Lee continued, mentioning that since taking office, he has presented three policy addresses, each tailored to the circumstances of different periods, setting goals and themes. According to him, the three policy addresses are interconnected and evolve according to the times and needs.
Lee thanked his team and government personnel for their collaborative efforts in carefully researching and formulating the policy address.
"The government will implement various measures and policies based on the principles outlined in the address, and I believe that as long as everyone works together to seize opportunities, reform, and develop in unison, they can achieve new heights and benefit the community while building a better future," he said.
