Monkeys under quarantine exhibit abnormal behavior, undergoing medical procedures, Kevin Yeung says
Recently, the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens has reported a total of 11 monkey deaths, drawing widespread public attention.
The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kevin Yeung, stated that several monkeys under quarantine observation are exhibiting unusual behavior, and their condition is somewhat fluctuating; they are currently undergoing medical procedures.
On the 13th of this month, eight monkeys mysteriously died at the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens.
Yeung indicated that the authorities took immediate action, isolating two monkeys and closing the relevant area. By Oct. 16, two more monkeys required isolation.
"In recent days, two additional monkeys have died, prompting the authorities to conduct autopsies to investigate the causes of death and to check for possible infections, such as rhinoscleroma."
Yeung also expressed hope that after some time when the monkeys' conditions return to normal, the authorities will consider reopening the affected area.
