One Common Squirrel Monkey of the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (HKZBG) that was put under isolated surveillance was found dead yesterday (Oct. 19). Now the total number of monkey deaths is 10.

Kevin Yeung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated today (20th) that the remaining 70 or so animals in the park have not shown any abnormalities. The authorities will take care of the animals still in quarantine and will announce the latest situation in due course.

Yeung mentioned that aside from the monkeys that were previously quarantined, other animals in the park are behaving normally, and he believes that the current preventive measures are sufficient. With the recent death of another monkey, the authorities have communicated with relevant departments and inspected the site, concluding that the overall measures are currently adequate and will continue to implement the relevant plans.
