Policy Address 2024 | Sun Dong: HK payload specialist begins training in Beijing, hopes for space mission opportunity
During a press conference following the Policy Address on Oct. 19, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Sun Dong, announced that a Hong Kong resident had been selected as a payload specialist and has already commenced training in Beijing.
The training, which typically lasts two years or more, is part of the individual's preparation for potential space missions. Sun expressed hope that the trainee will complete the program successfully and have the opportunity to enter space in the future.
Lee Kwok-bun, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, added that a new research and development center will be established under the InnoHK initiative to develop a multifunctional robot capable of mobile charging and dexterous operations on the lunar surface. The project will be led by a team from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, with participation from multiple local universities, and in collaboration with institutions from the Mainland and overseas.
