Bus parade & exhibition opens: Lam Sai-hung highlights superior performance of China-made buses in recent years
The Transport Department, together with three bus companies, is hosting a bus parade and exhibition at Victoria Park from today (Oct. 19), until Oct. 22 of this month. Eight retired and active tour buses will depart from Victoria Park and conclude their journey at Man Kwong Street in Central and Western District.
Speaking at the kick-off ceremony this morning, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr. Lam Sai-hung, said that bus services have long been an indispensable part of Hong Kong's economy and people's livelihood. Buses have not only met the travel needs of HK people every day, but have also witnessed the city's developments.
He also stressed that the rapid developments in new energy technologies in the country have enriched HK's choices in new energy transport vehicles. The introduction of electric double-decker buses and hydrogen fuel cell buses in recent years, many of which are China-made models, has been well-received due to their superior performance and comfortable design.
The country has made significant achievements in various fields through perseverance. Innovations in energy and transport technologies reflect the nation's leadership in these areas, bringing convenience to daily life through technology that is increasingly integrated into the public's everyday lives, he added.
The bus parade and exhibition will showcase buses from different eras, and provide citizens with an opportunity to look back on the history of buses in HK and experience the essential role buses play in the public transportation system.
