Policy Address 2024 | HK's rising global indicators: Govt to focus on innovation, traditional strengths

The Chief Executive, John Lee, delivered his third Policy Address the day on Wednesday (Oct. 16). (HK. gov)

The Chief Executive, John Lee, delivered his third Policy Address the day on Wednesday (Oct. 16). Speaking on a radio program today (Oct. 18), he said Hong Kong is undergoing a restructuring, which is particularly noticeable in some sectors such as tourism, and that the industry needs to have a new mindset to cope with the changing consumption patterns of the public and tourists.

Lee thinks that Hong Kong is still a popular destination for shopping and tourism. However, in terms of transportation between Hong Kong and the Mainland, it is easier for Hong Kong people to travel to the Mainland, and as many mainland cities have new and diversified tourist attractions which the public will compare, Hong Kong has to increase its own attractiveness. The government's job is to inform the public of the current environment and set the direction. He said that Hong Kong's macroeconomic environment is satisfactory, but changes have to be made in individual sectors.

Lee also mentioned that Hong Kong's ranking in a number of global indicators, including the status of financial center, competitiveness, etc., has risen, reflecting that the government's policies are in the right direction, and emphasized that Hong Kong has to consolidate its traditional strengths while vigorously developing innovation and technology.
