The night sky will witness a full moon at 7:26 p.m. today (Oct. 17). Later, at 8:51 p.m., the Moon will reach its perigee—the point in its orbit where it is closest to Earth.

Astronomy experts have noted that this is the closest alignment between the full moon and the Moon's perigee this year, with the two events occurring less than 11 hours apart. So, this full moon will be the largest of the year, making it the biggest "supermoon" of 2024.

According to NASA, this supermoon is expected to grace the skies for three consecutive nights, offering ample opportunity for viewing.

Experts suggest that to best appreciate this supermoon; observers should find a reference object on the ground. This can make the full moon appear even larger to the naked eye. Photography enthusiasts are encouraged to combine the moon with unique landscapes to capture creative shots.
