The election for the Macao Special Administrative Region's six-term Chief Executive occurred this morning (Oct. 13) at 10 a.m. at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex.
Although Sam Hou Fai, who previously received 386 nominations from the Chief Executive Election Committee, is the only candidate running for election, all 400 members of the election committee are required to cast their vote of confidence.
Sam Hou Fai received nominations from 386 election committee members, representing 96.5%. Some committee members have stated they would decide whether to support him based on his political network. It is interesting to see if today's final vote percentage will exceed the aforementioned figure.

Macao's past Chief Executive elections featured only one candidate except for the first competitive election. As prescribed by the Macao SAR Basic Law, the chief executive is elected by a broadly representative Chief Executive Election Committee and is then appointed by the Central People's Government. The chief executive serves a five-year term.
Following the election, a press conference for the Chief Executive-elect will be held on the first floor of the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex.
