China to host 2024 AIPPI World Congress for first time from Oct. 19 to 22
The 2024 AIPPI World Congress will take place from Oct. 19 to 22 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, marking the first time the event has been held in China in the 127-year history of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
According to a press conference by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), 2,259 participants from 92 countries and regions are expected to attend, including over 1,500 overseas participants from regions such as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. This year's Congress has achieved a record number of participating countries and regions in AIPPI's history, showcasing its broad international representation.
Chinese elements will be a key highlight of the Congress, with more than 700 Chinese intellectual property (IP) professionals registered to attend, marking unprecedented domestic participation.
The Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court will hold a patent infringement trial, with some overseas attendees registered to observe, offering them a close-up view of China's professional and authoritative judicial protection of intellectual property.
The Congress will feature a China-specific forum, where government officials and judges will introduce the latest developments in China's intellectual property examination and protection. Leaders from China's National Intellectual Property Administration will also join a luncheon with representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and other major IP offices to discuss current IP examination and protection policies.
Additionally, an e-commerce forum will feature representatives from companies such as Alibaba, Tencent, Douyin (TikTok China), and Amazon China, who will discuss intellectual property dispute resolution on e-commerce platforms and social media.
Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman of CCPIT, stated that hosting the AIPPI Congress in China for the first time is a milestone in the country's intellectual property development. It will greatly enhance international cooperation and exchange in the IP field, strengthening China's voice on the global stage.
