North Korea announces complete severance of rail and road links with South Korea
The North Korean Central News Agency reported that the General Staff Department of the Korean People's Army has declared that starting today (Oct. 9), all rail and road connections with South Korea have been completely severed. The statement mentioned that defensive fortifications along the border area are being strengthened.
The declaration described South Korea as a principal hostile nation and a permanent main enemy, citing the severance as a response to South Korea's military drills and frequent visits by the United States to the region.
