Nobel prize in medicine awarded to scientists for research on microRNA
Starting today (Oct. 7), the Nobel Prizes for 2024 will be announced in succession. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will be announced first at 5:30 PM Hong Kong time today, awarded jointly to American developmental biologist Victor Ambros and American molecular biologist Gary Ruvkun, in recognition of their contributions to the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.
According to the official Nobel Prize website, the prize money for each Nobel Prize in 2024 will remain the same as in 2023, at 11 million Swedish kronor, which is approximately 8.2 million Hong Kong dollars.
The announcement dates for the various Nobel Prizes in 2024 (Hong Kong time) are as follows:
- Physiology or Medicine Prize: No earlier than October 7, 17:30
- Physics Prize: No earlier than October 8, 17:45
- Chemistry Prize: No earlier than October 9, 17:45
- Literature Prize: No earlier than October 10, 19:00
- Peace Prize: No earlier than October 11, 17:00
- Economic Sciences Prize: No earlier than October 14, 17:45
