When petty things become lethal: Detroit girl charged in fatally stabbing of 7-year-old sister after argument over toilet use
A tragic family incident took place in the US, where a 13-year-old girl fatally stabbed her 7-year-old sister after an argument over how to use the toilet. The older sister reportedly used both a butcher knife and a hunting knife to stab her younger sibling more than ten times, resulting in the younger girl's death.
The 13-year-old has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, and first-degree child abuse.
According to local media reports, the incident occurred in Wayne County, Detroit, Michigan, around 11 a.m. on Sept. 28. The parents of the two girls had left the house, entrusting the 13-year-old to look after her younger sister.
The sisters reportedly began arguing over what kind of paper could be flushed down the toilet. The argument escalated, and the 13-year-old retrieved a hunting knife and a butcher knife before attacking her sister in the bathroom, stabbing her multiple times. After the attack, the older sister called her father and then contacted the police for help.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located the victim in the bathroom with over 10 stab wounds ranging from the abdomen to the head and to the neck.
One of the officers stated that, given the girl's young age, she would not be tried as an adult. She will be held in a juvenile detention center for seven years, where she will undergo diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
The girl will be released at age 21.
