A social media user posted a photo on Threads showing a man stunned by a screen displaying a charge of over HK$738 million while paying his phone bill at a self-service kiosk at a Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) store.
The social media user said he witnessed an elderly man in front of him being asked to pay over HK$738 million, as shown on the kiosk screen. The post detailed how the man was visibly shocked and frozen, leaving the poster and the woman behind him equally stunned.
The post sparked lively discussions online, with one user commenting, "One man, supporting the Hong Kong economy single-handedly, moved me instantly."
HKBN responded to media inquiries, explaining that the incident occurred due to a customer mistakenly entering a nine-digit number intended for the account number field into the payment amount section. They confirmed that the actual monthly bill should have been around HK$300.
