Local media sources state that S. Iswaran, the former transport minister of Singapore, was given a 12-month jail sentence on Thursday.
The sentencing came after Iswaran pleaded guilty on Sept. 24 to charges of obtaining valuable items as a public servant and obstructing the course of justice.
He was found obtaining gifts worth over 400,000 Singapore dollars (US$309,000).
Singapore's Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau investigated Iswaran last July and he resigned as the transport minister in January.
