Four people shot when police officers pursue fare evader at subway station
According to CCTV-13, two police officers in New York City fired shots while pursuing a fare evader at a subway station in Brooklyn on Sept. 15, local time, resulting in four people being shot, including the fare evader, one police officer, and two passengers.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) released camera footage on Sept. 21, which shows that after the officers caught up with the suspect, they repeatedly asked him to drop his weapon, but he refused.
The officers tried to subdue the suspect with the Taser after unsuccessful attempts at persuasion but failed.
After exiting the train car, the suspect charged at one of the officers with a knife, prompting the two officers to fire multiple shots at him. One of the officers later reported that he had also been shot.
Following the incident, the involved officers faced scrutiny for excessive use of force, and the NYPD has committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
