The government has announced that the number of cruise companies sending ships to Hong Kong has reached 30 this year, an increase of 67% from last year's 18, returning to pre-pandemic levels. The cumulative number of non-local cruise passengers has already matched last year's total of 220,000. The year-end figure is expected to grow significantly by about 50% compared to last year, with the arrival of the cruise peak season. The authorities will continue to work with stakeholders in the cruise industry to promote the development of Hong Kong's cruise sector.
The Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau (CSTB) stated on social media that the authorities are actively collaborating with cruise companies to explore new cruise routes and consumer markets. For example, cruises departing from China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand will come to Hong Kong in the coming months. These cruises will either stay overnight in Hong Kong or conclude their journeys here, giving travelers more time to explore and consume in the city.
The Bureau also noted that as the rainy season gradually passes, various cruise companies are gradually deploying ships to Asia for seasonal operations, which means that Hong Kong will enter its cruise peak season. In the coming months, the city is expected to see over 100 cruise voyages.
