Police distribute 3,000 tracking devices to prevent disappearances
Hong Kong police aim to distribute 3,000 Bluetooth tracking devices this year to high-risk individuals prone to getting lost, including those with cognitive impairments.
Last year, the number of missing persons with cognitive disorders reached 444, a 53% increase from 290 in 2020.
The initiative, a collaboration with various institutions in the East Kowloon region, allows caregivers to pair the tracking devices with their smartphones to prevent their loved ones from going missing.
The police stated that this plan not only helps in quickly locating missing individuals but also reduces the chances of casualties.
